Claire Phillips, FIRP, Director

I am a committed and dedicated recruitment addict, Fellow of the Institute of Recruitment Professionals, with nearly 30 years’ experience in the industry. I have worked for one of the largest players in the industry, launching new services and branches but my first love was retail and commerical banking as that is where I started my career and spent 7 happy years with Nat West.

So I founded Ultimate Banking - a niche provider of banking professionals to the UK Retail and Commercial Banking market. A tight knit team who have previously worked together for many years and who all share my dedication. Many thought after 20 odd years with the same employer the summer of 2008 was a strange time to set up a banking recruitment agency but I think it was the best decision I ever made.

I give up some of my limited spare time to help young people prepare for the world of work through the Bromley Education Business Partnership. I believe we should all try and give something back.

I live in Kent and am born and bred, my great love outside of my job is my beautiful garden and my allotment, both of which consume huge amounts of time but give great satisfaction.

I am passionate about helping people reach their career goals and believe in constantly striving to be the best that you can be in whatever you choose, as you only get one crack at life.  Having Graduated from Nottingham University with a degree in what my friends call ‘colouring in’ (Geography), it is true to say I rather fell in to recruitment without too much knowledge of the sector.

But this proved to be one of the best decisions I made and I have not looked back since.  I got an excellent ‘grounding’ on the Graduate Programme at Reed, studying for a CIPD along the way and after 2 years found my calling at the sharp end of things – recruiting for Multi-National Banks throughout the UK.  After 8 enjoyable years, including running a team that managed over 1,000 Temps/Interims in a single week and building a £million pound business from scratch, I decided to go out and build something myself – and so in 2008 Ultimate Banking was born and I have never looked back!

A work/life balance is also important to me; the more you achieve in the week, the more you can enjoy the weekend!  I am a very proud father of 2, which keeps me very busy outside of work.  I am also a passionate sportsman, watching anything competitive and whilst my Football days are behind me due to injury, I still enjoy a game of golf or cricket at the weekends, or if I feel I have earned it, 18 holes on a Friday afternoon.  I achieved one of my lifetime goals by completing the London Marathon a few years ago and raised over £3,000 for the Parkinson’s Disease Society.  I now have a new goal which is to compete in Triathlon, and hope to raise money for George’s Marvellous Medicine in doing so this year.  This is a charity close to my family’s heart, one of my son’s friends having suffered from Leukaemia and is now raising money to ensure the ‘toy rooms’ of every children’s ward are well stocked!

Sandy Roach, FIRP, Director

I am a Recruitment and Training professional who is truly enthusiastic about helping companies and individuals develop and grow. As a Director with Ultimate Banking, a successful and growing niche recruitment business, I head- hunt Banking Professionals for the Retail and Commercial Banking sector. As a trainer for the CIPD, I also design and deliver Recruitment Training and related services via Ultimate Training.

As an active Fellow of the Institute of Recruitment Professionals I keep up to date with all industry and employment law changes. In addition to being a Prince 2 Practitioner and ITIL V3 Qualified I can be relied upon to advise my clients on implementation and change. This is specifically valuable during organisational change projects where recruitment issues are involved.

My pedigree includes 25 years in commercial recruitment and I have been MREC /IRP qualified since 1984, having worked for both multinational and award winning small niche recruiters. I joined Ultimate after completing an overseas Operations role managing the CRM and Payroll functions.

I am a Board member of Young Enterprise Croydon mentoring young entrepreneurs and Secretary of the Wallingtonians' Association. I live in Surrey and am lucky enough to have three marvellous grown up children.
