Our client is a fintech consumer lender who are well established (over 5 years old and already lent £200m+) and heading for huge growth over the coming years following significant investment. They have big plans to disrupt and become the dominant force in the UK consumer finance sector using a data-led approach to everything they do and diversifying its funding model to include on-balance sheet lending, complementing its well-established and market leading P2P platform.
Reporting to the CFO and working alongside the FP&A Manager, as Financial Controller you will be managing a team of 2 part-qualified accountants and will be integral in shaping and ensuring the day to day running of the finance function and play an important role in supporting the business through its significant expansion phase. Working in a relatively small finance team of 6, the role is very broad and is a great fit for somebody with strong leadership skills and a technical accounting background who wants to manage all aspects of financial reporting and control.
Responsibilities of the Financial Controller:
- Support the CFO with mid-term financial planning and longer-term growth strategy, working with the FP&A Manager to improve the group financial model
- Manage the production of annual statutory financial reporting across multiple entities, including the consolidated group, and providing oversight and management of the annual audit process
- Manage the production of the monthly management accounts and monthly close process, including the group consolidation
- Ensure all reporting is compliant with statutory standards and financial regulations
- Responsible for all areas of tax management, including overseeing VAT returns and capitalising on relief schemes
- Work with the group’s tax advisors to manage tax exposure and ensure compliance (corporation tax, VAT, R&D claims)
Desirable skills of the Financial Controller:
- Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with 5+ years PQE
- Experience within financial services, either from an audit background or within a similar lending business
- Outstanding technical knowledge (FRS102/IFRS, VAT, tax), especially IFRS 9 and EIR accounting
- Highly developed numeric/analytical and modelling skills
- Excited by working in a relatively small, FinTech environment
- Focus on automation and use of technology to create a world-class finance function
- Experience with warehouse financing and securitisations (including associated accounting and tax issues) would be highly advantageous
