Introduction

Every employer is not the same and WHO you work for and what that environment looks like is the difference between ANY job and a GREAT job.  Our client is a regional mortgage and savings provider and their mission is to develop their staff, technology, customers and brand, placing themselves at the heart of the communities they serve, to make a real difference.  And they are winning a lot of awards so must be doing something right!

Our client is based in the North East and they are recruiting for a Head of Prudential & Credit Risk to join their team.  Whilst there will be a requirement to be in the office from time to time so you need to be in the North East area, you can work mainly from home if you so wish.

Responsibilities of the Head of Prudential & Credit Risk:

As the Head of Prudential & Credit Risk, your key purpose is to lead a team in the effective delivery of an independent prudential and credit risk assurance and oversight programme, in line with the lenders three lines of defence assurance framework and compliance with regulatory expectations.

  • Management of the prudential and credit risk team, including 1:1’s, objective setting, performance management, coaching and feedback.
  • Attendance at the Risk Management Committee, Asset and Liability Committee and Pricing Committee, to provide an independent and expert voice.
  • Contribute to risk appetite setting and CRO Reporting and provide analysis and insight on key trends identified and recommend course of actions/ improvements.
  • Act as a specialist advisor to the business and Risk colleagues on matters of prudential and credit risk and compliance.
  • Own the design and production of Retail Credit Risk management information by Second Line, for review by the Senior Leadership Team and decision-making committees.
  • Own and oversee a programme of work covering the review and challenge of credit risk activity and to ensure risks taken are in line with capability to manage the risks.
  • Provide second line challenge to the strategic documents, business plan, ICAAP, ILAAP and Recovery and Resolution Plans and other proposals

Requirements for the Head of Prudential & Credit Risk:

This is a great opportunity for someone with existing knowledge of the prudential & credit risks that a mortgage lender faces, combined with strong data analytical skills and the ability to present to senior stakeholders, incl. Board level.  It would suit someone looking to progress their career from a snr credit risk role or indeed someone looking to move from a bigger lender and to be a ‘bigger fish in a smaller pond’.  In return, you will get the support and guidance to become an expert in your field and exposure to things you just would not get in a bigger lender at this level.
