Our client, a mortgage and savings provider, have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Legal Executive to join the team, assisting the Group Secretary and the Director of Legal and Compliance with all aspects of the legal and regulatory requirements of the company. This is a fantastic role for someone who wants to progress their career within a legal function in financial services and to learn about the role of the Company Secretary. This role is succession planning and so there will opportunities for progression in the future.

Main duties:

  • Understand and advise on various aspect of the laws and regulations applicable to the company.
  • Review and propose updates to various aspects of corporate governance.
  • Review of and/or drafting various commercial contracts with suppliers and third parties.
  • Assist in documenting investments and joint ventures and other commercial transactions on behalf of the company.
  • Handling or assisting in dealing with litigation and disputes where appropriate.
  • Assist on Non Disclosure and Data Protection issues as required.
  • Research and write briefing papers on regulatory change.
  • Research on aspects of commercial and employment law where required.
  • Assist with the agendas, minutes and preparation of meeting documents for various committees and the AGM.
  • Maintain and update the calendar of board approvals and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in all regulatory returns and filings.
  • Make applications for authorisations by the regulators
  • Assist in the reviewing and updating of policies and manuals.
  • Assist in the management of various projects.

The successful candidate will have: -

  • Legal qualification - knowledge of commercial and/or employment law preferred but not essential
  • Strong understanding of the regulatory and legal framework in financial services would be preferable
  • Strong administration skills including accuracy.
  • An ability to review detailed and complex documents for content and accuracy and to be able to summarise content.
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal
  • Excellent IT skills i.e., Word, Excel and Outlook
  • An ability to prioritise and work with conflicting demands
