Our client, a niche mortgage and savings provider are looking to strengthen their mortgage team by recruiting an additional Mortgage Underwriter.
The purpose of the role is to take the lead in writing of business that falls outside of standard lending; providing lending solutions, assessing applications, and understanding any potential risks involved with the lending and working with key stakeholders throughout the business.
Duties of the Mortgage Underwriter will include:-
- Ensure queries/referrals are assessed to a comprehensive level and within SLA’s
- Ensure submitted applications are underwritten in line with policy and regulatory limits/rules
- Risks are correctly identified and communicated during the underwriting process and adequately mitigated.
- Preparing cases for personal referral to credit committee and /or Board as required.
- Keeping up to date and maintaining a knowledge of credit risk and regulatory rules/guidance connected with the assessment of mortgage applications and using this knowledge to improve the quality of assessment and/or processes
The successful candidate for the Mortgage Underwriter role will possess: -
- Recent experience of manually underwriting cases in a mandated position
- Understanding of credit and interest rate risk
- Understanding of individual and company accounts for the purpose of understanding the sustainability of current or potential income
- Understanding of Property Risk
- CeMap or equivalent would be highly desirable
- Experience of underwriting more complex mortgages would be highly desirable
