Role: PR and Communications Officer

Location: Newbury

Hours: 35 hours per week (Monday – Friday 9am-5pm)

Salary: £27,900 to £31,000 (dependent on exp and qualifications)


Newbury Building Society are looking for a creative and dynamic PR & Communications Officer to support the development, management and improvement of the Society’s marketing and communications strategy by creating communications content for external and internal audiences.


Reporting to the Marketing and Communications Manager, the key responsibilities of the role are:


  • Developing content to support the marketing strategy and multi-channel campaigns. For example: research, writing, updating and editing of product information, guides, news articles, advertising, stakeholder publications and press releases.
  • Lead on PR activity, building media relations for both direct and introduced target markets. Build relationships with editorial contacts in print and online media and intermediary clubs and panels.
  • Assisting the Marketing and Communications Manager in the development of the internal communications strategy and activity.


Essential criteria:


  • 3 years + marketing or PR experience with a demonstrable record of effective PR and content writing in product or service marketing.
  • Excellent attention to detail, experienced in writing for B2B and B2C audiences, proof reading and editing skills.
  • Completed or undertaking CIM Certificate in Marketing or equivalent PR qualification.
  • A Level standard qualification or relevant work place experience.
  • Experience of content writing for multi-channel campaigns.
  • Track record in gaining press coverage in local and trade media through timely and effective press releases.
  • Experience of internal communication content and content planning.
  • Commercial focus and analytical mind.
  • PC skills (Advanced PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Team player, confident, organised, shows initiative, positive and cheerful attitude.
  • Smart appearance, driven and self-motivated.



Desirable criteria:


  • Currently in a PR or content writing role with a portfolio of PR campaigns or multi-channel campaigns delivered.
  • Examples of internal communication campaigns delivered.
  • Experience of working within financial services or regulated environment.
  • Marketing or PR agency experience.
  • Keen interest in content marketing, digital technology, media, tools and trends.
