Our client is an award winning specialist mortgage lender and they have an exciting new position which is responsible for managing their back book of Commercial Mortgages, mainly Development Finance and some short term / bridging lending.  They are looking for a strong Relationship Manager who is used to directly managing the end borrower / business customer and has some knowledge of Development Finance already, although this can be learned more in detail. 

 

Based mainly from home and visiting clients (mainly midlands and south incl. London), you will have a mortgage support whom you will directly line manage.  When required to be in the office their location is the East Midlands.  Key responsibilities of the Relationship Manager include:

 

  • Own the monitoring processes and controls on short term loans and development loans
  • Work with borrowers ensuring timely repayment of facilities
  • Identify potential risks within the book and take action to appropriately mitigate them
  • Recommend extensions where appropriate ensuring good customer outcomes are achieved
  • Proactively manage development loans ensuring the following; that development progress is monitored and understood,  that drawdowns are approved in line with policies and LTVs are protected, that any issues are identified early and dealt with appropriately, that good customer outcomes are achieved and that any risk to the lender is understood and appropriately mitigated
  • Identify future risks & analyse information on both the short & development books to highlight trends, enabling early interventions on high-risk accounts and ensuring senior leadership are informed on loan book effectiveness.
  • Report to Board on the performance of the short and development book, highlighting any identified trends
  • The management and continuous development of your direct report

 

This role would suite an experienced relationship manager with a background in business / commercial banking who has also been responsible for lending to those businesses and the ongoing monitoring of performance.  A good knowledge of Development Finance is required but training can be given in this area.  You will also be adept at line managing staff.  In return you will be joining a highly customer focussed lender (they are a Mutual), where quality is valued above quantity of lending.
