Our client is a hugely successful financial service organisation who are looking to add a Senior Underwriter to their existing team. This is a first-rate opportunity for an experienced manual mortgage underwriter to take their first steps towards management.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Underwrite allocated applications to offer, within assigned mandate level and agreed service standards, requesting further information from relevant stakeholders where required and verifying this on receipt.
  • Offer mortgages to approved borrowers, within assigned mandate level and agreed service standards, requesting any outstanding information if required and verifying it on receipt
  • Communicate with intermediaries by telephone and in writing, handle objections and provide objective feedback to any questions
  • Work closely with the sales team to take consideration of time pressures and customer journey
  • Manage escalations and resolve technical queries from other team members
  • Support the management team with the implementation of policy
  • Become expert on current best practice and regulatory requirements in assisting vulnerable customers
  • Contribute to underwriting team meetings giving the benefit of your experience
  • Respond to complaints within SLA’s seeking advice and guidance from Management where necessary and assist less experienced members of staff in this regard
  • Identify any potentially fraudulent activity and escalate any concerns to Management or the Compliance Department immediately. Assist less experienced members of the team in this regard
  • Support, and coach if required, all staff where required with technical queries
  • Follow and keep up to date with current best practice and regulatory requirements and recommend improvements or changes to procedure
  • Participate in any ad-hoc or strategic project work as and when required
  • Participate in User Acceptance Testing as required
  • Take ownership of upskilling staff assigned to you and supporting the on-the-job training of new staff members on process, policy or systems

To be successful you will need:

  • To have held an underwriting mandate
  • To have at least 3 years manual mortgage underwriting experience
  • To live within commutable distance of the client
