Our client is a specialist Mortgage Broker who is looking for an Underwriter with understanding of more complex products. They package mortgages for over 50 lenders on a ‘whole of market’ basis and are creating a new team to ensure cases are put forward to lenders to a very high-quality level. In particular they specialist in Self-Build, Renovation and Conversion products and services in the UK and are growing rapidly.
The ideal candidate with have a good understanding of complex mortgage lending, be it from an underwriting, mortgage advising or processing / packaging background.
Salary is up to £25k + bonus / benefits with an OTE of £28k.
Responsibilities:
- Carry out accurate underwriting assessment of applications and supporting financial and build documentation with reference to various lenders’ criteria
- Complete appropriate assessment forms/tools to a high standard
- Communicate lender requirements in a professional manner to broker or customer in accordance with lender policy
- Carry out accurate assessment of supporting financial and project documentation when received to ensure compliance with lenders’ policy
- Achieve high standard of application submission with minimum of post-submission lender requirements
- Work proactively with brokers, applicants and lenders to achieve mortgage offer within target timescales
Experience/qualifications required
- 2 years “Manual” mortgage underwriting experience with knowledge of complex, non-vanilla products
- Excellent communication skills with experience of dealing directly with brokers and customers
- CeMAP qualification preferred
- Experience in assessing applications from self-employed clients with ability to analyse self-employed accounts
- Experience in self-build lending advantageous but not essential
