Senior Mortgage Underwriter

Are you an experienced, Senior Mortgage Underwriter, who has a wealth of experience in specialist residential and BTL lending? Our client is a customer focussed, mortgages and savings provider, offering a variety of mortgages to their customers. The nature of their loans are for complex scenarios within the Residential, BTL, Holiday Lets and Bridging space. Due to this, they are seeking an individual who has strong experience and skills within niche, complex lending, which will include exposure to complex self-employed accounts.

Being part of the wider mortgage team, as a Senior Underwriter you will not only manually underwriter and process new mortgages but offer support and training to the more junior members of the team.

Duties will include:

  • To assess and make recommendations on cases that are outside of policy
  • To liaise with customers, brokers, valuers and solicitors during the processing of their mortgage through to completion ensuring good customer outcomes
  • To lead the application process by providing clear guidance to the Mandated Underwriters on the requirements for each case, and to support the Case Managers and Offers & Completions Teams on their requirements
  • To be fully competent in the assessment of complex self-employed accounts.
  • To independently assess and interpret financial accounts including complex group structures to determine affordability, sustainability and credit risk and to identify risk factors.
  • Review and provide sign off for complex income assessments.
  • Analyse complex personal and business income, including foreign currency income, trust arrangements, dividend/retained profit flows and self-employed financials, exercising sound judgement when assessing credit risk and income sustainability.
  • Rapidly review and provide indicative assessments of financial accounts, including group or complex structures, to give brokers certainty on case appetite and guide the direction of applications at an early stage.
  • Chair the Credit Committee, facilitating thorough discussion, constructive challenge and sound credit decisions aligned to risk appetite and policy.

The successful individual will possess:

  • Strong experience in complex mortgage underwriting within the residential and BTL space.
  • Previous experience of assessing complex self-employed accounts.
  • Knowledge of Bridging lending would be desirable, but not essential.
  • CeMap qualified or be prepared to study and attain within 12 months of employment.

Our client offers a hybrid working arrangement across their business. Whilst 40% of your working time in the office would be their preferred, they are happy to consider individuals who can commit to 3 days per month at their head office in Leicestershire
