Credit Manager

Ultimate Banking are pleased to be working with an ethical, charitable commercial loans and savings provider as they seek a Credit Manager to join their commercial loan underwriting team.
Our client is owned by charitable foundations, trusts and social purpose organisations; founded to support charities with loans that weren’t accessible, and to educate people as to how their savings could be invested ethically and in ways that would make a contribution to much needed charities. Every single one of their shareholders are either a charitable trust, foundation or social purpose organisation.
Your role objective is to provide support to the Director of Credit and Credit Controllers in the management, review, investigation, documentation and minimising of credit and legal risks associated with loans made by the bank in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements, and the bank’s operating policies and procedures.
This role will have particular focus on reviewing and managing property development finance deals for the bank. As Credit Manager within a team of 7, you will be responsible for:
- Collaborating with colleagues to analyse credit applications to identify risks and mitigants and to be able to articulate both orally and in writing your recommendation to approve or decline a proposal.
- You will be involved with structuring and negotiating loan conditions, support in the documentation of loan agreements and provide support where required to reduce risks to the bank and optimise the borrower experience.
- The role will challenge your critical thinking skills and require you to be inquisitive, practical, and initiative-taking to reach lending decisions that mitigate risk to the bank but assist borrowers in achieving their mission.
Skills and Experiences required of the Credit Manager:
- 5 years+ of SME lending experience within a bank or lender, to include manual underwriting of commercial property loans
- 3 years+ property development finance / commercial mortgage experience including associated documentation in the UK
- Analytical skills including critical review of annual reports and management accounts, budgets, and business plans
- Keen attention to detail and a real team player who wants to learn from others but also share their knowledge
Whilst their head office is based in Kent, they operate a hybrid approach to the working week, with 2 days in the office and the remainder working remotely. The company operate a standard 4 day working week, so great for those looking for some Work / Life balance.
