Role: Mortgage Underwriter
Location: Newbury (though home based initially)
Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday – Friday 9am- 5pm
Salary range: £22,500 - £25,000 + benefits
Newbury Building Society are recruiting for a Mortgage Underwriter to join their busy underwriting team. The role will be home based initially but with a view to a return to their Head Office in Newbury in the future.
The main responsibilities of the role are to underwrite mortgage applications whilst providing excellent customer service and maintaining the quality of the Society’s mortgage book.
Essential criteria for the role:
- Able to communicate clearly and concisely face to face, by telephone and in writing
- Confident and positive attitude
- Strong decision maker
- Self-motivated and able to prioritise to meet service standards
- Able to do mathematical calculations and judge business risks, recognising when to refer for decisions
- Good understanding of the Financial Services industry
- Highly organised with the ability to deal with a variety of tasks and delegate effectively
- GCSE or equivalent with Maths & English grade C or above
- Willingness to study for CeMAP qualification
- Able to use Microsoft applications including Word, Excel and Outlook
Desirable criteria for the role:
- A-level or equivalent standard of education
- CeMAP
- Mortgage underwriting/knowledge of the mortgage application process
