Our client is a small but highly successful niche lender who are looking to add a trainee to their current mortgage team. As a trainee Mortgage Advisor, you will need to be enthusiastic, customer service driven and passionate about building relationships. You will be able to understand customer situations and deliver clear accurate information and advice. Planning, organising and supporting the rest of the team along with developing your own potential within the role is key.

Key tasks

  • Process all new direct mortgage cases including further advances through to completion
  • Liaise with Customers in respect of their Mortgage requirements
  • Respond to all incoming mortgage queries and correspondence in writing, via email or telephone in a professional manner
  • Provide suitable Mortgage Advice to new and existing mortgage Customers both face to face and on the telephone
  • General administration relating to mortgage customers
  • Review, monitor and act as required on daily/ weekly/ monthly and annual exception reports relating to mortgage accounts
  • Arrears processing including liaising with Solicitors and Asset Management companies in respect of properties in possession
  • To observe and comply with the Individual Conduct Rules contained in the FCA Handbook Code of Conduct (COCON)

  • Be competent and maintain ongoing competency under the Mortgage Training & Competence Scheme

  • Keep an up to date knowledge of all the mortgage products and services
  • Understand and comply with all appropriate regulation, codes of practice, procedures and policies relevant to the Mortgage Adviser’s role including Treating Customers Fairly
  • Ensure personal and professional development by undertaking internal and external training courses as required
  • Have a professional, positive, flexible approach, supporting Colleagues at all times
  • Communicate with colleagues efficiently, reporting any issues, departmental requirements and problems to your line manager for attention

Person Specification

  • Have strong communication and interpersonal skills along with accurate administrative capabilities
  • Excellent literacy and numeracy skills
  • Be CeMAP qualified 

Experience

  • Have a good understanding of mortgages
  • Be numerate and PC literate (Word / Excel / Email)
  • Have the ability to develop long term customer relationships both face to face and over the telephone in order to establish and meet the customers’ needs and help them achieve their goals
  • Be able to maintain a detailed level of knowledge to be able to effectively handle a wide range of mortgage related enquiries

Providing mortgage advice is a Regulated Activity under the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000, therefore the Society will be required to certify you on an annual basis with the Regulators as fit and proper once you achieve competency as a Mortgage Adviser. For the purpose of the role you will be known as a Certified Person.
