Our client, a successful and well-respected financial services organisation based in Leicester, are currently recruiting for an Underwriter to join their underwriting team, reporting to the Head of Lending Operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that quality new business is generated in accordance with Group Policy, strategy and risk appetite and that existing business is retained where possible
  • Assess mortgage applications in accordance with Group Lending Policy criteria
  • Review and approve mortgage applications for offer, in accordance with Group Lending Policy criteria, within mandate authority level
  • Review and consider Decision in Principle requests, in accordance with Group Lending Policy criteria, within mandate authority level
  • Assist in the checking and approval of Mortgage Offers for issue by Group Lending, as required
  • Review and approve release of funds for mortgage completion, in accordance with authority levels for role
  • Provide guidance and share experience with Mortgage Assessors to ensure that mortgage applications are dealt with and assessed in accordance with the Group Lending Policy and risk appetite
  • Review and assist in the coordination of mandator referrals and ensure that they are reviewed by a relevant authorised mandator in a timely manner and decisions are appropriately communicated
  • Participate in regular review of Mortgage Assessor pipeline cases to ensure that applications progress in a timely manner and provide guidance as required
  • Assist in the preparation of Group Lending monthly data for submission to third party providers, suppliers or external parties
  • Ensure that performance targets are met, and where possible exceeded, and conform to the Group’s strategic requirements.

Experience/ Skills required

  • Recent underwriting experience
  • CEMAP qualified
  • Act with integrity
  • Act with due skill, care and diligence
  • Be open and cooperative with all regulators
  • Pay due regard to customers interests and treat them fairly
  • Observe proper standards of market conduct

The salary will initially be up to £25,450, however there is scope to progress and increase your salary within the year (dependent on experience) up to £30k and further earning potential.
