Our client, a well-respected and long-established financial services provider based in Nottinghamshire, have an opportunity for an Underwriting Manager to supervise the mortgage underwriting team.  They provide niche residential Mortgage products but are looking at expanding their product range to include commercial / development finance lending (circa. £1 - £2m loans) and Bridging / short term loans in the future. Experience in this area is required for the role as you will have the opportunity to lead expansion in this area.

 

Duties will include: - 

 

  • To provide leadership and mentoring through coaching and feedback to communicate expectations for employee performance.
  • To oversee and monitor the day to day activities within your team ensuring that processes run efficiently and effectively. 
  • To continuously monitor the performance and workload of the team to achieve core lending objectives and defined offer production timescales.
  • Support the development and implementation of business change to ensure evolution and to meet the short- and long-term strategy.
  • Carry out their day to day role responsibly and effectively.
  • Be fully conversant with Lending Policy, underwriting policies, procedure and controls whilst ensuring the Senior Underwriters/Underwriters are compliant with all relevant statues and codes
  • To take responsibility of the creation of the annual lending policy test for Direct Sales and Intermediary Sales.
  • To monitor and assess Trainee Underwriters skills and capabilities and recommend (when appropriate) progression and evolution to an Underwriter role.
  • To proactively manage your own individual Commercial lending pipeline 
  • To maintain an understanding and contribute to the arrears/forbearance process required on any small-scale development lending which experiences delays or other forms of distress.

 

The successful candidate will have:

 

  • Previous underwriting experience within residential mortgages is essential 
  • Experience of underwriting Bridging/Self-build or commercial loans would be highly desirable
  • Be aware of the risks involved in small scale development finance and how to mitigate these accordingly
  • Experience in managing a team
